Born in Nancy, France. Cinematographer who entered French film as a camera operator for the animated short film PAS DE REPOS POUR BILLY BRAKKO / NO REST FOR BILLY BRAKKO (1984). He worked assistant camera for 37°2 LE MATIN / BETTY BLUE (1986) and UN CŒUR QUI BAT / A BEATING HEART (1991). Delbonnel won the European Film Award for his collaboration with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet on the stylishly expressionistic film AMÉLIE (2001). Delbonnel had previously worked with Jeunet on several short films and various commercials.
