Born in Philadelphia, PA. Sound mixer and re-recording mixer who entered film production with THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (1957). Other notable credits include JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1959), SPARTACUS (1960), THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (1978), ROLLER BOOGIE (1979), FATSO and CARNY (both 1980), THE ENTITY (1981), BLADE RUNNER (1982), BACHELOR PARTY (1984), MOVING VIOLATIONS (1985), MOVING, BABY M and MIDNIGHT RUN (all 1988), FLETCH LIVES and BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II (both 1989), GHOST DAD (1990), THE HARD WAY, DELIRIOUS and ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS (all 1991), I'M YOUR MAN, SLEEPWALKERS, WILD ORCHID II: TWO SHADES OF BLUE and OF MICE AN MEN (all 1992), DOPPELGANGER (1993) and TRAPPED IN SPACE (1994). From the early 1990s, Fein worked almost exclusively in television, and he was nominated for Emmys® for 1980's "A Time for Miracles" and 1996's "Truman". He won the Award in 1980 for the "Dive to the Edge of Creation" episode of "The National Geographic Specials".
He died in Wichita, Kansas, his adopted hometown, after producing and editing sound for "Bloody Dawn: The Lawrence Massacre" (2007, TV).
