Born in New York City. Collaborated with brother Richard M. Sherman to form a successful songwriting team. Both were educated at Bard College and after making a name for themselves as a pop composer-lyricist team were hired by Walt Disney studios, for which they wrote many popular songs in the 60s, including the Oscar®-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee" for the film MARY POPPINS (1964). Free-lancing in the early 1970s, they began collaborating on screenplays as well as on the music and lyrics of kiddie-market films.
