Titanic (1953)
Born in Chicago, IL. He freelanced as a radio writer, then served in the Navy in WW II. Afterward he went to Hollywood, where he began a highly successful career as a screenwriter, both alone and in collaboration with Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett. Notable non-nominated screenwriting credits include THE MATING SEASON and THE MODEL AND THE MARRIAGE BROKER (both 1951), NIAGARA (1953), DRAGNET (1954), PETE KELLY'S BLUES (1955), THE FBI STORY (1959), STATE FAIR (1962), PT 109 and MARY, MARY (both1963), DO NOT DISTURB (1965) and TONY ROME (1967). He wrote and directed one film, STOPOVER TOKYO (1957).

Breen was the first president (1954-1955) of the Writers Guild of America, West.
