Cecil Beaton

Born in London,England; educated at Harrow and Cambridge. The noted artist who gained fame as the photographer of British royalty and celebrities of the entertainment world (notably Greta Garbo) also authored and illustrated a number of books and designed the sets for numerous stage, opera, and ballet productions in London and New York. He created costumes for a number of films, winning Academy Awards for GIGI (1958) and for MY FAIR LADY (1964), on both of which he also served as overall production designer. His last film project was the period costumes for ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER (1970). He was knighted in 1972.
