Born in Chicago, IL. Art director who entered American film as an editor of 3 Noel M. Smith films for Richard Talmedge Productions in 1929: BACHELOR'S CLUB, BACK FROM SHANGHAI, and THE HEROIC LOVER. By 1939, Obzina was an associate art director at Universal. Associate credits include WHEN TOMORROW COMES, FIRST LOVE, DESTRY RIDES AGAIN and THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS (all 1939), HIRED WIFE and ONE NIGHT IN THE TROPICS (both 1940), THE FLAME OF NEW ORLEANS and HELZAPOPPIN' (both 1941), FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN (1943), and several of the "Sherlock Holmes" films (1942-43).
As full art director at Universal, Obzina's credits, alone or in collaboration, include MY LITTLE CHICKADEE (1940), THE AMAZING MRS. HOLLIDAY and SON OF DRACULA (both 1943), THE MERRY MONAHANS, HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE MUMMY'S CURSE (all 1944), HOUSE OF DRACULA (1945), DRESSED TO KILL and THE KILLERS (both 1946). Moving to UA, Allied Artists and Monogram, he's credited for HEAVEN ONLY KNOWS (1947), ARSON, INC. (1949), M (1951), WACO and WAGONS WEST (both 1952), and THE LADY WANTS MINK and THY NEIGHBOR'S WIFE (both 1953). From 1953, Obzina worked in television, acting as art director for episodes of "Bill Baker, U.S.A.", "General Electric Theater", "The Adventures of Kit Carson", "The Revlon Mirror Theater", "The Pepsi-Cola Playhouse", "Studio 57", "The Ames Brothers Show", "M Squad", "Shotgun Slade", "Johnny Staccato", "Alcoa Premiere", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (70 episodes), and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour."
