Love Me Forever
(a.k.a. "On Wings of Song" -- UK)

US (1935): Musical

Excellently scripted musical of rising star/falling angel. Quite similar in theme to What Price Hollywood? (the latter A Star Is Born), this Victor Schertzinger film for Columbia follows an opera-loving working man who falls in love with a singer and builds a career for her, sacrificing his personal happiness for her, though he knows she doesn't love him. Grace Moore is quite fine as the opera singer (she sings six arias gloriously, including the entire first act finale duet from La Boheme) and Leo Carillo gives his finest dramatic performance as Steve Corelli, her mentor. It is quite absorbing and adult and glorious to listen to. (Arne Andersen, IMDb)
